Where Coastal Charm Meets Community

Richmond Hill is more than just a suburb of Savannah. It is a destination in its own right. Located along the Ogeechee River in Bryan County, just about 12 miles south of Savannah, it has grown into one of the most desirable places to live on the Georgia coast.

history

History

Richmond Hill has a long history that goes back to 1734. One of its most well known chapters came in the 1930s, when Henry Ford chose the area as his winter retreat and built an estate along the river. That same connection to the land and the river is still part of what makes Richmond Hill special today.

The Real Estate Market

Richmond Hill offers something that is becoming harder to find in coastal Georgia, strong overall value. Home prices vary based on size, location, and age of the home, but buyers often find they get more space, more yard, and more community for the price compared to many areas closer to Savannah.

Inventory has opened up in recent months, giving buyers more options to choose from. That includes newer construction in planned communities, established neighborhoods with mature trees, and homes with a bit more land and privacy.

Single family homes make up the majority of the housing in the area, and the market continues to attract people who are looking to settle in and stay awhile.

Schools

Richmond Hill is part of the Bryan County Schools district, which covers the local public schools in the area. As the community continues to grow, the district has grown with it, serving students from elementary through high school.

Schools in the area include Richmond Hill Primary, Frances Meeks Elementary, Carver Elementary, Richmond Hill Middle, and Richmond Hill High School.

School zoning depends on the exact property location and can vary from street to street. It is always a good idea to confirm zoning for any specific home, and I am happy to help with that during the home search

Adventure Is Practically in Your Backyard

Life in Richmond Hill leans outside. The Ogeechee River runs through the heart of the community, and residents take full advantage: Kayaking, fishing, boating, and simply enjoying the scenery that makes coastal Georgia so special.

Fort McAllister State Park is a must. Built in 1861 and beautifully preserved, it's one of the best-kept Civil War sites in the Southeast. Beyond the history, the park offers nature trails, a boat launch, playgrounds, and fishing spots. It's the kind of place you visit once and keep coming back to.

The Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens, Kilkenny Marina, J.F. Gregory Park, and Georgia Peach World round out a local scene that keeps weekends full without ever feeling rushed. And when you're ready for more, Savannah is 20 minutes away, Tybee Island's beaches are under an hour, and Hilton Head is a short drive up the coast.

Small Town Feel. Big City Access.

Richmond Hill is located at the intersection of I 95 and U.S. Highway 17, which makes it easy to get where you need to go. Savannah is about a 20 minute drive, and Fort Stewart, the Golden Isles, and Hilton Head are all within a reasonable drive as well.

Most residents have a manageable commute while still coming home to a quieter, more relaxed setting. That balance of peaceful neighborhoods, open space, and convenient access to surrounding areas is a big part of why people choose to stay once they move here.
